BioBlitz in Guria, Georgia
The environmental educational event BioBlitz was organized in Guria by WWF Caucasus Programme Office together with the local CSOs and financial support of the Embassy of Sweden in Tbilisi.
Students from local schools in Ozurgeti and Chokhatauri municipalities of Guria, located in the Western part of Georgia, had the opportunity to get acquainted with the unique biodiversity and hear about the rare and endangered species living in the planned area of the future National Park and the importance of their protection. After the field trip, the students prepared the presentations on their findings and presented in different creative ways at the final events held on 29th and 30th of October in both municipalities. The authors of the best works were awarded by the Ambassador of Sweden to Georiga H.E. Ulrik Tideström and WWF Caucasus Programme Office director Giorgi Sanadiradze.
"Bioblitz" was held within the framework of the Creation of Guria National Park project and one of its main goals is to raise the awareness of local youth about the biodiversity in Guria, the threats that it is facing and how it can be protected.
The project “Creation of Guria National Park” is being implemented by the WWF Caucasus Programme Office together with the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia and the Agency for Protected Areas, with the financial support of the Embassy of Sweden in Tbilisi.
